Tips for getting rid of bed bugs

Have you noticed bed bugs in your bedroom or on your clothes? Here are some steps to know to get rid of these mini-vampires.

Mechanical wrestling

Before starting an insecticide treatment, which, as we all know, can be harmful to health, first try the mechanical method.

Doing a deep clean

To get rid of a bed bug infestation, a thorough cleaning of your home is essential. Wash your blankets and pillows. Set your washing machine to 90°C and boil your sheets in it if possible. Consider placing any textiles that are normally washed at low temperatures in your freezer for two to five days at -18°C.

Next, thoroughly vacuum every nook and cranny of your home. Pay particular attention to all potential hiding places. However, the vacuum cleaner could still trap bed bugs, which could then escape and infest other rooms. The hose and nozzles must always be cleaned after each use, and the bag must be tightly sealed before being disposed of in an outdoor waste container. To do this, it is essential to vacuum up powdered insecticide or spray it into the hose as soon as the vacuum cleaner is unplugged. For more information, visit our bed bug extermination page.

Perform a steam cleaning

When burned at 180°C, all bed bugs are instantly eradicated. To carry out this cleaning, it is perfectly possible to rent a steam cleaner.

Getting rid of infested furniture

Take the infested furniture directly to the waste disposal center for destruction. Storing it elsewhere would only move the problem to another location.

Natural remedies

To help you deal with this invasion, here are some natural tips that can make your home clean and tidy.

Tea Tree essential oil

As both a natural insecticide and an excellent pest control agent, bed bugs hate its scent. Their proliferation will therefore be hampered. The oil can be sprayed on your bed or diffused in your room.

The clove

Clove, which is particularly effective at eradicating parasites such as bed bugs, is used in the same way as Tea Tree.

Lavender essential oil

Considered an excellent alternative for combating bed bugs, lavender essential oil can also be used by pregnant women. To apply it, mix 50 ml of water with a dozen drops of the oil, then spray.

Diatomaceous earth

Diatomaceous earth is a natural insecticide made up of microscopic algae. To use it, spread a thin layer of this powder on the floor around your bed and on the baseboards, then wait for about ten days; you will see that the bedbugs will disappear.

Toxic products

It should be noted that chemical products can be considered if absolutely necessary. However, while harmful to health, their use requires a number of precautions. Therefore, it is strongly advised to call in a professional pest control service.
